Abstract
Economics is an inseparable part of the teachings of Islam, because in essence the teachings of Islam are syumuliyah that covers all areas of life. Islamic economics as a scientific discipline is still in the process of development. To understand the relationship between religion and economic behaviour, we must study the field and scope of each. In general, religion is defined as human perceptions and beliefs related to their existence, the universe, and God's role in the universe and human life that leads to patterns of human relationships and behaviour with God, fellow humans and the universe. Islam defines religion as not only related to spirituality or reality, but religion is a series of beliefs, provisions and regulations as well as moral demands for every aspect of human life. Economics is defined as the study of human behaviour in using scarce resources to produce goods and services needed by humans. Thus, economics is a part of religion. The scope of economics covers one area of human behaviour related to consumption, production and distribution. Every religion definitively has a view on how humans behave to organise their economic activities. The purpose of this paper is to explain the relationship between Islamic studies and Islamic economic discourse and to explain the development of Islamic economics.
